  Message in a bottle

This new initiative for the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery education program builds on artSites (2006–2011). Message in a bottle will link very strongly with exhibitions, programs and resources of the MPRG. It will provide a framework that brings together students and communities from coastal Mornington Peninsula with students and communities from other locations around the Victorian coastline. The starting point will be creating a virtual message and a bottle that is set adrift to reach a buddy far away across the waters.

In 2012 the MPRG will work intensively with two schools – one being on the Mornington Peninsula and the other being across the Western Port or Port Phillip bays. The MPRG will progressively set up a project model that all schools around the state can modify or adapt in partnerships with other schools, whether they are geographically nearby or great distances apart.

Underpinning Message in a bottle will be effective communication and exchange partnerships that fully explore notions of self, identity, place, community and environment in conjunction with creative explorations and activities. Integral to the project, its processes and key outcomes, will be the e5 Instructional Model, the embracing and incorporation of ICT, such as FUSE, Ultranet and Elluminate and other new technologies that support and enable improved student learning outcomes.

Message in a bottle will culminate each year with participants producing a body of written, recorded and visual work that will form the basis of an annual display or exhibition for their local communities either in the MPRG or at a cultural facility.

Please contact the MPRG’s Education Coordinator for further information about how your school could become involved in 2012 on 5975 4395 ext 110 or email olimpia.rosenblum@mornpen.vic.gov.au
