2004 Exhibition
Melbourne artist Paul Boston won the 2004 National Works on Paper Award (NWOP). Boston was selected out of a shortlist of 63 Australian contemporary artists. He created a work that judge Samantha Comte described as ‘combining a high level of technical expertise with a conceptual complexity that results in an engaging and alluring work. Perhaps one of Boston's most successful works on paper, the judges are very pleased that a work of this calibre could be acquired for the MPRG collection.’
The 2004 NWOP judges selected the work of seven other artists to become part of the MPRG’s nationally recognised collection of contemporary works on paper. These included Mark Galea, Jon Campbell, Rona Green, Bradley Hammond, Louise Hearman, Andrew Seward and Aida Tomescu.
The judging panel included Samantha Comte, Director Gertrude Contemporary Art Space, Irena Zdanowicz, Independent Curator and Art Historian and artist Tim Jones.
