Conservation workshop
This one-hour workshop is an introduction to conservation concepts and issues, significantly those relevant in a public gallery. The gallery, as custodian of hundreds of works of art in any given year, has a special obligation to ensure that works of art, whether on display or in storage, are kept in an environment that meets stringent museum standards. In addition, there is a myriad of associated activities that need to be undertaken with professional care and diligence to ensure that works are handled appropriately. Learn more about the special care that needs to be taken to ensure that works of art survive into the next century and beyond.
This workshop is appropriate for students of VCE Studio Arts Unit 4: Outcome 3 and is offered in July, August and September both on-site and off-site. Bookings are essential and a fee applies. For further information ring the MPRG’s Education Officer on 03 5975 4395.
Art Industry Issues workshop
There’s always a hot topic in the art world – from the winner of the annual Archibald Prize to the awarding of an arts grant to an ‘unknown’ artist. Have you ever wondered why a gallery acquires one artist’s work over another and what makes a work of art ‘good’? This interactive workshop is designed to examine contemporary (and not-so-contemporary) issues, works of art and artists who have created a stir that has fuelled and ignited debate and discussion.
This workshop is appropriate for VCE Studio Arts Unit 4: Outcome 3 and is offered in July, August and September both on-site and off-site. Bookings are essential and a fee applies. For further information ring the MPRG’s Education Officer on 03 5975 4395.
