An Art Gallery of New South Wales Touring exhibition

We are excited to share the news that MPRG will be the exclusive Victorian venue for the Archibald Prize tour in 2023. The exhibition will run from 15 September – 5 November 2023. MPRG last hosted the Archibald Prize tour back in 2013 and 2014, and we can’t wait to present this project next year.

Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW, the Archibald Prize is an annual prize awarded to best portrait painting and is the country’s favourite and most significant art award. Since 1921, it has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting back to us the stories of our times.
