Video is becoming one the key ways in which we communicate - from Instagram Stories, to TikTok videos. In this interactive workshop we will learn how to tell interesting stories from our own lives and the stories around us in an interesting and engaging way.

This session is taught by YouTuber and TikToker Julian O'Shea - who was named the 2021 Australian YouTube Breakout Creator of the Year - and creates videos about design, cities, Melbourne and interesting facts in the world us, and has millions of views across his content.

In this session we will learn what make video engaging, how to tell a story in a short amount of time, and how to combine scripts and visuals. No experience needed - although if you can bring a phone, and are comfortable with an app which lets you record and edit (such as TikTok) - then that'd be great.

Teacher: Julian O'Shea is a designer, engineer and researcher with a passion for educational storytelling. He is the creator of the Unknown Melbourne series on YouTube which explores the design of the city - from pedestrian crossing buttons to why trucks keep hitting the Montague Street Bridge. He has presented work at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Transitions Film Festival and recently had a short film selected for screening at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival.
