FRIDAY UNWINDS gives you an exclusive pass to meet the artist and admire the Archibald Prize 2023 artworks without the usual throngs of visitors.

After your week winds down, join us for an intimate ‘in conversation’ with MPRG Director Danny Lacy and Perth based Archibald Prize finalist, Jill Ansell. Jill will talk to her fascinating self-portrait, which includes desert sands (!) and reveal why so few Western Australian artists enter the Archibald Prize.

Delve into the stories behind the portraits, as our expert guide continues the tour and unravels the artistic processes and personal motivations reflected in this year’s exhibition. Discover how the artists skilfully use colour, form and composition to breathe life into their subjects, capturing their essence in every stroke.

Whether you are a seasoned art enthusiast, or a curious newcomer FRIDAY UNWINDS promises to be a memorable and enlightening journey into the heart of portraiture, offering an in-depth exploration of the prestigious Archibald Prize Exhibition.
