FRIDAY UNWINDS gives you an exclusive pass to meet the artist and admire the Archibald Prize 2023 artworks without the usual throngs of visitors.
After your week winds down, join us for an ‘in conversation’ with MPRG Curator Dunja Rmandić and esteemed Melbourne based artist, Yvette Coppersmith. This is the 7th year Yvette has been selected as a finalist and in 2018, she won the prestigious award with her self-portrait, in the style of George Lambert’s 1922 Archibald self-portrait.
This year, Yvette's subject is Lady Primrose Potter, a portrait commissioned for the University of Melbourne Art Collection to acknowledge the patronage of this long-time philanthropist and arts administrator, and her commitment to the cultural life of Melbourne.
Delve into the stories behind the portraits, as our expert guide continues the tour and unravels the artistic processes and personal motivations reflected in this year’s exhibition. Discover how the artists skilfully use colour, form and composition to breathe life into their subjects, capturing their essence in every stroke.
Whether you are a seasoned art enthusiast, or a curious newcomer FRIDAY UNWINDS promises to be a memorable and enlightening journey into the heart of portraiture, offering an in-depth exploration of the prestigious Archibald Prize Exhibition.
