Introduction to Weaving Workshop with Baluk Artist Juanita M
In this 2.5 hour workshop you will learn the basics and first steps of weaving, about the materiality of the woven form and how to interpret or expand on the weave with your own collection of natural found objects and adornments. All materials supplied however feel free to bring some extra weaving materials along!
Morning tea will be provided and all abilities are welcome.
Bookings are essential as numbers are limited.
Growing up in Broome on Yawuru country, Juanita has memories of red dirt, swimming holes and camping in caves. Through her weaving, Juanita is drawn closer to her people and culture where master weavers were integral to community living, Aboriginal culture and indigenous history. Juanita honours her love for nature by using found materials in her arts practice, which is both traditional and contemporary in her weaving technique. “When I weave a piece, I might start off with an image in mind, but quickly the materials take over, it’s like the materials talk to me and be what they want to be…”
