For thousands of years, weaving has held deep cultural knowledge and embodied ways of knowing, being and doing for First Nations peoples—woven into rope, baskets, dilly bags, mats, and ceremonial objects.

In this hands-on workshop, Taungurung artist and educator Sammy Trist will introduce participants to this vital and ancient practice through the creation of a woven bracelet.

Guided by Sammy’s experience and cultural insight, you'll learn traditional weaving techniques using natural fibres and materials, explored through a contemporary lens.

This welcoming and inclusive workshop is designed for beginners and offers a unique opportunity to connect with Taungurung culture through making and storytelling.

Sammy Trist is a proud Taungurung woman and multidisciplinary artist known for her work across painting, sculpture, woodwork, pyrography, murals, digital design, and jewellery. With over 30 years of experience in education, she shares cultural knowledge in inclusive and engaging ways, creating safe spaces for learning and connection. An alumna of KHT’s Blak Design program, Sammy blends contemporary expression with ancient traditions, using natural materials to craft ceremonial objects and body adornments that honour her heritage.

All materials provided and no prior experience necessary. Tea & Coffee available on arrival, bookings essential.
