Both Body & Not

An MPRG exhibition
Curated by Leah Ferguson

22 June – 18 August

Thinking beyond the self to the communities we live in and the universe we inhabit has been a shared philosophical venture of humanity and art. Austrian architect, philosopher and artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s theory of the five ‘skins,’ provides an interesting reference for how we exist as individuals in this bigger picture. Those five layers—of bodily skin, clothing, community, ecologies and universe—provide a useful reference point for how an individual connects to the various layers of their environment. With their own specific motifs, the works in this exhibition reference ideas of body, community and universe as these layers of being.

The exhibition features over 30 MPRG collection works, from artists including Elizabeth Banfield, Julia Powles, Jess Johnson, Riley Payne, Andrew Sibley and Peter Purves-Smith.
