Amanda Shone in conversation and SOLSTICE piano trio performance

Supper served in the foyer from 5pm, followed by Amanda’s artist talk and performance from 5.45pm – 7pm

Amanda’s Front Beach, Back Beach (FBBB) work, titled Intone to Place, reflects on her grandparent’s migration from Latvia to the Somers Migrant Camp on the Mornington Peninsula in 1950. A performative work where a migrating structure and musical performance pays homage to human perseverance and the enduring nature of culture, threatened through war and resettlement. Intone to Place was presented for FBBB at Coolart Homestead, a magnificent Victorian mansion set between migratory bird wetlands and the old Somers Migrant Camp, which is now used for schools and education.

Join us to hear Amanda talk about the connection between her family and her work; the open frame of a makeshift house and a piano, which sits casually and somewhat adrift in the Gallery.

Amanda’s introduction and artist talk will be followed by a stunning performance by the contemporary piano trio, SOLSTICE, with guest artist Jessie L. Warren.

SOLSTICE has gained a reputation for its explorative approach to curation, inhabiting a musical niche that is fresh, accessible and always exciting.

Drawn together in 2015 by a mutual desire to break the piano trio out of its classical music tradition, Natasha Conrau (violin), Stephanie Arnold (cello) and Georgina Lewis (piano) have spent the last seven years uncovering and commissioning new genre-traversing works, championing in particular the music of Australian and women composers.

The trio presents ‘A Woman’s Face’, featuring singer/songwriter Jessie L Warren. Jessie sings about being human, in both an individual and collective sense. She sings about the natural world, and our place therein. She sings about bodies and self-identity, and the uneasy connections between. This program includes arrangements of Jessie’s own music, and reimagining’s of songs of love and loss.
