Polyphony for Intertidal Ecologies
Artist: Geoff Robinson
Location: Monmar/Point Nepean

10:00am – 5:30pm : Participant Workshop
6:00pm – 7:00pm : Public Performance

Join artist Geoff Robinson for a unique and immersive experience into the research and sound performance project Polyphony for Intertidal Ecologies.  Situated at Monmar/Point Nepean, this project engages with the ecologies of the intertidal zone - the area where land and sea meet - focusing on the complex relations of pollution with these coastal environments.

Through a day workshop of collaboration and creative field work, ten participants will engage with the acoustic ecology of the intertidal zone through hydro listening (underwater sounds) along with collecting coastal plastics pollution to develop a polyphonic sound score for a live performance.

The workshop asks the question: How can we listen to intertidal ecologies to better understand the future of coastal ecosystems and their entanglement with pollution?

In the evening, the public is invited to experience the culmination of this research in a live performance. The participants will amplify the sounds of plastics pollution and intertidal ecology, offering a speculative glimpse into the possible futures of our planet’s coastal environments. Don't miss this thought-provoking event that blends environmental awareness with experimental sound art.

Things to know about the workshop and performance:
-The workshop will involve a 40min walk on a variety of surfaces including dirt track with steep inclines, steps, sandy beach, and coastal rock platforms.
-Regular breaks will occur throughout the day and before the performance.
-Plant based lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided.
-All sound recording equipment will be provided. Bring your headphones if you have a pair (basic headphones will also be available).
-NB the workshop will lead up to a public performance where participants will make sound in and amongst the audience.
-No previous experience required, just an interest in ecologies and openness to performing in public.

Please send a brief response to why you are interested in participating in the workshop and performance (50 words approx.) by the Sunday 5 January to geoffrobinsonprojects@gmail.com
