Clayton Tremlett: Linocut Portraiture Workshop
Next date: Monday, 04 August 2025 | 09:30 AM
to 04:00 PM
* Arrive from 9.30am for a 10am start *
Discover the bold and expressive art of linocut printmaking in this hands-on portraiture workshop with artist and educator Clayton Tremlett. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop offers a welcoming and inspiring introduction to the fundamentals of linocut.
Guided by Clayton, you’ll explore the entire process—from selecting and developing an image, transferring it to a lino block, and learning expert carving techniques, to proofing and printing your final design on archival-quality paper. Participants are encouraged to bring a portrait image of their choice to use as a reference, and those interested in image manipulation are invited to bring a laptop with a USB port to explore digital techniques that can enhance the design process.
Clayton Tremlett is a respected Australian artist and printmaker whose practice draws on extensive research exploring the complexities of Australian history and culture. His linocut portraits reflect a deep engagement with these narratives, and he brings this same thoughtful, research-informed approach to his teaching.
Clayton is represented in the Australian National Gallery, Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Geelong, Monash University, Mornington Peninsula, Wangaratta, Warrnambool and State Library of Victoria collections.
No need for prior experience and all materials are provided, including morning & afternoon teas. Aside from your reference image, please also bring your own lunch and an apron to protect your clothes.
