Cyanotype Workshop at MPRG AiR with Dianna Wells
Artist in residence Dianna Wells will guide us through the camera-less photographic process of cyanotype printing.
Cyanotype is one of the world's oldest camera-less photographic printing processes. The process uses a photosensitive chemical emulsion resulting in a distinctive blue colour, juxtaposed to a negative which is formed by placing inorganic or organic objects on paper and removing them following exposure in sunlight.
The first half of the workshop will take place at Dianna's residency cottage. We will collect plant matter from our surrounds, exploring printing with found materials from the residency site. Participants are more than welcome to bring plant matter or other ephemeral material from home.
Weather permitting, in the second half of the workshop we will venture to the beach - a couple minute drive away - and experiment with beach matter and exposing in sea water.
The workshop will focus on learning the possibilities of cyanotype processes, experimenting in different locations and having fun.
Materials:
All materials will be supplied, except for any ephemeral material you wish to bring along.
Please bring an artist apron, and/or suitable clothes for getting messy & visiting the beach.
Please bring a beach towel as we may get out feet/legs wet at the beach.
Please bring your own water/snacks as per needed.
Access:
This workshop is suitable for persons aged 18 years and plus.
This workshop requires us to take couple minute drive to the beach and requires a short walk from the carpark down to the beach.
For any questions, please reach out.
Following the workshop, have a rest or bring your lunch, before joining us for an afternoon of Open Studio Talks with Darcey Bella Arnold & Bridget Hillebrand, our two other Artists in residence. Find details for those events here: Open Studio Events
