MPRG Collection Publication Launch
This publication celebrates the work of women artists in the MPRG Collection and is an important step in acknowledging and beginning to address the gender imbalance that exists within the Collection.
Since the first Countess Report on gender inequity in the Australian arts sector in 2016, institutions around the country have taken a closer look at their own collections, exhibitions programs, awards and staffing and implemented ways to authentically address gender imbalance in the sector.
The publication features over 50 artworks that capture the energy and vitality within the MPRG Collection. It includes a powerful essay by acclaimed art historian and curator Dr Janine Burke that anchors the publication within the present moment while connecting to our recent past, along with an all-female line-up of writers who have written short texts for each artwork.
We hope that this book will become an important educational resource and reference that traces works by women acquired by the Gallery.
Formalities commence at 7.30pm with our guest speaker Kelly Gellatly, independent arts advocate, curator and author, Narelle Russo, MPRG Collections Curator and the Mornington Peninsula Shire's Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lisa Dixon.
This is a free event and light refreshments will be served. Please register your attendance as numbers are limited.
