SKYWHALES FLIGHTS POSTPONED
Unfortunately, due to unfavourable weather conditions, the two extraordinary sculptures Skywhale and Skywhalepapa by internationally renowned artist Patricia Piccinini will not fly Saturday 26 April. The flight and the MPRG Special Sunrise Session programming have been postponed until later this year, with a new date to be confirmed.
Free community event, hosted by MPRG, presented by the National Gallery of Australia & supported by the Friends of MPRG
Saturday 26 April, 5.30am–7.30am, Dallas Brooks Park, Mornington
Leading Australian contemporary artist Patricia Piccinini’s hyperreal hot air-balloon sculptures Skywhale and Skywhalepapa take flight at Dallas Brooks Park, Mornington. Pack a picnic, grab a coffee or breakfast from a food van and feel the anticipation build as the balloons inflate and take flight before your eyes. A soundscape sets the mood, followed by a special introduction from the visionary artist Patricia Piccinini herself. As the first light of day breaks over Mornington, the Skywhales ascend and lift your spirits.
MPRG Special Sunrise Session (no bookings required)
The Skywhale festivities continue back at MPRG, with a special sunrise session. The gallery doors will open at 7.30am, with Skywhale kids activities and a book signing with Patricia Piccinini at MPRG. Sing karaoke with musician Jess Green (AKA Pheno)’s song We are the Skywhales, receive a Skywhale knitting pattern by Canberra knitter Katy Griffis or grab a Skywhale-inspired treat from Nuno’s Southern Hospitality food truck on MPRG grounds.
9:30am – Patricia Piccinini book reading and signing
11am – In Conversation with Patricia Piccinini and MPRG Director Dunja Rmandić
