This 3-hour contemporary jewellery workshop invites participants to slow down, observe, and respond to their local landscapes through wearable form.

Taking inspiration from skies, waterways, bushland or urban environments, participants will explore how moments of visual attention can be translated into form through the construction of minimalist contemporary neckpieces.

Through guided observation, visual brainstorming, and material experimentation, participants will identify what catches their eye, a flash of colour, a subtle contrast, an unexpected shape, or a harmonious arrangement of forms, and transform these observations into sculptural jewellery pieces using a careful selection of mixed materials.

Using a reductive and minimalist approach, the workshop encourages participants to distil an idea to its essence, focusing on intentional use of material, composition, balance, and storytelling through form.

Prior to the workshop, participants are encouraged to spend some time taking photos in and around their local environment, focusing on small details that catch the eye. Maybe it's the way sunlight light hits the water, a bright moon, a flower in a field, or perhaps the neon pop of colour on a grey freeway. These photos don’t need to be high quality, just a personal journal to be used as a springboard for inspiration.

Participants are also encouraged to bring in some inspired materials that have the potential to be threaded, such as repurposed beads or found objects that can be translated into beads. (already having a piercing for thread to pass through)

The workshop will also supply a small selection of materials to be used to support your concept and outcome. For example, large glass pearl as per image.

This workshop complements the conceptual and material concerns explored within Natalia Milosz-Piekarska’s exhibition, Sifted Light, encouraging audiences to engage deeply with observation, materiality, and personal interpretation. We urge you to visit Natalia's exhibition prior to joining the workshop!

Natalia will host the workshop in her studio space at 'Shore Things' an inspired created space within the Dromana Habitat industrial precinct. Please note we will be upstairs & regrettably there is no lift access. Refer to images on ticketing site.
