Kids workshop: First Nations knowledge and crafting with plants

Yanggurdi (Walkabout)

For ages 6-12yo.

Join us for a hands-on creative session inspired by local nature and and First Nations culture with Aunty Sammy Trist (Taungwurrung).
Children will explore the exhibition Unfolding, then enjoy activities inspired by Yanggurdi (Walkabout) colouring book, and craft their own necklace using gumnuts and water reeds. We’ll also learn about native plants and their significance for First Nations people. 

All materials provided. Spaces limited, booking required. 

Adult co-creator required.

 

About Sammy Trist

Sammy Trist is a proud Taungwurrung  Women of the Kulin Nation, living on the Mornington Peninsula. Her multidisciplinary art practice spans painting, sculpture, murals, storytelling, art workshops for children and adults and digital designs. She teaches indigenous culture in various education settings, facilitates cultural awareness training, and enjoys sharing her knowledge and culture to children and youth in her community.
