We are thrilled to welcome Gregory Sukroo back to MPRG after his sell out figurative sculpture workshop in 2025. Gregory, an avid teaching & sculpture enthusiast, brings over 35 years of expertise in three-dimensional art.

In this masterclass, Gregory will lead a hands-on workshop exploring the creative potential of wall mounted sculptural works.

Drawing inspiration from current MPRG exhibitions participants will begin by observing and sketching details—colour, form and material relationships—as a starting point for developing abstract ideas.

From these initial drawings, you’ll create your own lightweight wall-based sculpture (approx. 30 x 30 cm) experimenting with composition, construction, texture and colour. Using a mix of materials—including soft aluminium, cardboard, wood, paper, plaster bandage, paint and found objects—you’ll explore ways of building layered, balanced forms that move between surface and structure.

The class embraces open-ended making: whether you lean towards minimal or complex constructions, subtle tonal palettes or bold colour contrasts, Gregory will support you to “choose your own adventure,” bringing enthusiasm, expertise and practical insight to expand your sculptural practice and create a distinctive wall-based work.

What is supplied?
- Most construct materials, including pencils, pens, markers, wire, plaster bandage, aluminium, plaster & paper
- Sculpting and adhesion tools
- Morning & afternoon tea

What you need to bring:
- Found, personal objects and any small shape of form that inspires (based on a 30cm x 30cm sculpture). This may include scrap building materials, small interesting stones, plastic objects, buttons, charms, trinkets etc.
- Your lunch

Whether you are new to sculpture or looking to expand your creative practice, this is a fantastic opportunity to experiment with form, space, and expression while developing a solid foundation in wall mounted art forms.

Please bring your own lunch. Assorted tea, coffee & light snacks will be available..

Gregory Sukroo is a contemporary artist based on the Mornington Peninsula, specializing in three-dimensional sculpture. His work explores the interplay of forms, balance, and movement, with each surface guiding the directional flow of intersecting lines. Using both found and manipulated objects, Sukroo creates dynamic assemblages that invite wonder and shifting interpretations. Bold coloration unites multiple surfaces, enhancing the continuity and ambiguity within his sculptures. His distinctive approach has led to exhibitions in both public and private collections.
