Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Making women count

You are invited to add to the history of women artists!

MPRG is hosting a free Wikipedia Edit-a-thon presented in partnership with Wikimedia Australia and the National Gallery of Australia as part of their Know My Name initiative. It aims to increase the information publicly available about women and gender-diverse artists. Just over 19% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women. When it comes to women artists and creators, that number is even lower. If you know of an Australian or international female or gender-diverse artist or two who you think deserve to have their history, practice and visibility increased, come along to this group editing session.

What is an Edit-a-thon?

An Edit-a-thon is a public event where people collaborate to learn how to edit Wikipedia together. Training is provided at the event and there is a common topic that brings the group together.

What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a website or database developed collaboratively by a community of users, allowing any user to add and edit content. “Wikipedia” is a free online encyclopedia and is currently the largest and most-read wiki in history. The term comes from the Hawaiian word ‘wiki wiki’, which means fast!

What to bring?

Your own laptop. The session will be facilitated by a Wikipedia expert with detailed instructions for how to edit.
