Marion Harper: Restless Encounter

Marion Harper's painting and sculpture explores the boundaries between our bodies and spaces, between individuals and society, bringing into focus our continuous negotiation and adaptation to changes that life throws our way. By approaching embodiment—our experience of our own bodies—as unstable, Harper asks: ‘where does a body begin and where does it end? Harper lives and practices in on Bunurong Country, on the Mornington Peninsula.

News From Nowhere: Lisa Walker & Brendan Huntley

Irreverent but kind, the works of Lisa Walker and Brendan Huntley take themselves as seriously as we should take ourselves. They share a makeshift, DIY aesthetic that allows for a gentle approach and both deliberately tread the line between craft and fine art. Lisa Walker is an internationally renowned jeweller based in New Zealand and Brendan Huntley is a Melbourne based painter and sculptor, and singer in garage-rock band Eddy Current Suppression Ring. This exhibiiton draws on the deep relationship that both artists have to craft, the body and most importantly, to the way both address the human need to make, and see, art.

Both Body & Not

Thinking beyond the self to the communities we live in and the universe we inhabit has been a shared philosophical venture of humanity and art. Austrian architect, philosopher and artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s theory of the five ‘skins,’ provides an interesting reference for how we exist as individuals in this bigger picture. Those five layers—of bodily skin, clothing, community, ecologies and universe—provide a useful reference point for how an individual connects to the various layers of their environment. With their own specific motifs, over 30 MPRG Collection works in this exhibition reference ideas of body, community and universe as these layers of being.
