David Frazer: Linocut Printmaking Workshop

David Frazer with press.jpg

A year ago, David recorded a linocut printmaking workshop from his studio in Castlemaine for the MPRG online workshop series. You can watch it below if you've not seen it yet. Today it has had over 33,000 views! We are beyond excited to now host David at MPRG so he can deliver the workshop in person and you can progress your printmaking skills.

(In all honesty, the filmmaker was David’s 13-year-old son, what a filmmaking debut!)

David will discuss the cutting tools, the relief printing surface, how to ink up and ultimately create the best ‘pressing’ technique at home if you do not have a press on hand. David will talk about his practice and how his work, although frequently whimsical, explores isolation and sense of place amidst an often-bleak Australian landscape. There is always a story to tell in David’s works and the skill of his narrative significantly informs his prints and illustrated books.

Beginners and printmaking aficionados welcome! Bookings are essential as numbers are limited.

All materials are supplied. Please bring your own snack, tea and coffee will be provided.

David Frazer is the recipient of many awards in Australia and Internationally. Most recently in 2019 he was awarded first prize at the Cossack Art Awards in Western Australia and was the Australian commissioner for the Ulsan International Woodcut Biennial in Korea as well as winning a special prize. In 2018 he won the People's Choice Award at The Australian Print Triennial at the Art Vault Mildura Australia and in 2017 he won the people’s choice award at both the Banyule Works on Paper Award, and the Burnie Print Prize. His works are represented across Australia and overseas in collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Australian War Memorial, State Library of Victoria and Chiang Mai Contemporary Art Museum of Thailand.

Please note that the Gallery will be closed to the general public on this day and entry is for ticket holders only.
